Where two-factor authentication is managed
Multi-factor authentication (MFA), also called two-factor authentication (2FA), adds another proof of identity to sign-in. Microsoft and Google can require it when you use their sign-in buttons in the portal.
The portal currently has no built-in MFA enrollment screen for an email-and-password account. Account Settings does not enable Microsoft Authenticator or SMS verification. A password-reset email code is for recovery; it is not a second factor at every sign-in.
For a Microsoft work or school account
- Open Microsoft’s Security info page using the work or school account you use for support.
- Review available sign-in methods. If Add sign-in method is available, choose an administrator-approved method and follow Microsoft’s enrollment and verification prompts.
- Keep an approved recovery method available. If enrollment is blocked or a required method is missing, contact your organisation’s identity administrator.
- Return to the portal and choose Microsoft. Complete the provider’s MFA prompt when requested.
Your organisation controls allowed methods and when MFA is required. SMS and authenticator enrollment are not guaranteed to be available.
For a Google account
- Open Google Account security settings with the account used for the portal.
- Find 2-Step Verification and follow Google’s instructions. A managed Workspace account may require an administrator’s help.
- Store recovery codes securely outside support tickets. Return to the portal and choose Google when signing in.
Lost device or an unexpected prompt
- If you lose an enrolled device, use the provider’s approved recovery method or contact your administrator. A portal password reset cannot remove a provider’s MFA requirement.
- Decline authentication requests you did not initiate. Report repeated unexpected prompts through your organisation’s security channel.
- Never share one-time codes, recovery codes, passwords, or enrollment QR codes with the assistant or a support agent.
- For an email-and-password portal account, use a unique password and ask support about the sign-in options available to your organisation.
